Projects

AWWA undertook work under educational, health, environmental, small industries and vocational training, cultural, religious and social programmes. These projects were often done in collaboration with the AGA office, the Pradeshiya Sabhawa, other womens organizations in the region and other service organizations such as NewsView and AWWA.

The Educational programme’s projects included organizing workshops for school children on examination preparation, and career development There was also training for members in computing and Sinhala languages.

The Environmental program included projects on setting up household composting programs, and home gardening and training on agricultural practices. School children were provided awareness programs on environment, on proper preparation for examination.

The Health programme has held Ayurvedhic, Unani Treatment camps have been held at the Ayurvedhic facility near Akurana Central with free distribution of medicines. Awareness projects on dengue, tuberculosis, dental care, sexually transmitted diseases, and child care were conducted. Each project was carried out in different location making it possible for women across Akurana to participate.

The Cultural and Religious program included distribution of funds to needy women and speech and recitation competitions / events for school children.

The External Affairs program has been engaging with outside partners on events, organizing trips, visit to exhibitions, garden shows and events such as at the Department of Agriculture.
